Mitchell Park Domes - Plan Your Visit
The Domes include two permanent collections - the tropical 'jungle' dome and the arid 'desert' dome. Both Domes are open to the public year-round and stay nice and warm, even in the middle of winter. Visit at different times throughout the year to see different plants in bloom.

The Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory is a living plant museum with a permanent collection of over 1,800 plant species that represent plant life from across the globe.
Mitchell Park Domes - Tropical Dome
Throughout the Tropical Dome are numerous fruit trees including star fruit, banana, oranges and guava. You'll also see a coffee arabica plant and a cocoa tree - the seeds inside the pods are what are used to make chocolate; and you'll find several plants used for spices that can found in most kitchens, including cardamom, turmeric, and black pepper.

September - November Before the Domes, a Victorian conservatory was the top attraction in Mitchell Park, and a fall chrysanthemum show has been a regular event for over 120 years. Thousands of colorful mums, in dozens of varieties, are used to create the fall show display.

Mitchell Park Domes - Floral Show Dome
The first Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, inspired by Crystal Palace in London, England, was constructed in 1898 by Milwaukee architect Henry C. Koch. Koch also designed other Milwaukee landmarks including Milwaukee City Hall, Turner Hall, Pfister and 700 other buildings during his career.

Mitchell Park Domes - Desert Dome
The desert Domes is kept at a cool 50 degrees from October to March, and watered at just a minimum, to keep the plants dormant - this helps them bloom in spring and summer, when the desert dome comes alive with amazing color and aroma.
Mitchell Park Domes: The Domes Holiday Parade
Advent, Winter Solstice, Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa are all represented in “The Domes Holiday Parade." This multicultural display of stationary floats depicts revered holiday traditions and is set amid a spectacular bed of poinsettias, the most popular holiday bloom.
