Locating and Reading Your Meter. Your monthly bill from Xcel Energy is based on your electric and/or gas usage as measured by your meter.

Prior to smart meter installations, most of our electric meters are Automated Meter Reading (AMR) meters. Some customers have manual meters, which require a meter reader to visit homes and visually record a customer’s energy usage each month.

My Energy Connection will be active two days after your smart meter is installed and will reflect historical data starting with the smart meter install date. Data displayed within My Energy Connection reflects your meter's location time zone, not your phone's time zone.

How to Help Our Meter Readers. Provide our meter readers with a clear and friendly path to the meter. Keep the path and area around the meter clear of obstructions, such as toys and tools, from bikes to lawnmowers. If your home’s meter is inside, please keep the indoor path to the meter clutter-free to avoid a needless injury.

Net Energy Metering (NEM) is your non-incentivized solar option. All solar customers receive net energy metering benefits. When the system produces more solar energy than is needed, the extra energy is added to our grid.

In order to participate in a Residential Opt Out rate, you will need to have either a smart meter or a non-communicating meter. If you have opted out of the smart meter installation and already have a non-communicating meter, you can also enroll in this rate.
