The Pacific Northwest is staring down a rare spring severe thunderstorm threat and Texas is preparing to see up to half a year’s worth of rain by the weekend as March continues its streak of unusually disruptive weather.

The region has endured severe thunderstorms since Wednesday, with some parts of the Rio Grande Valley seeing half a year’s worth of rain in a span of 48 hours.

Heavy rain, severe thunderstorms and the risk of tornadoes are threatening more than 40 million people from Michigan to Texas as a slow-moving cold front hovers over the region.
