By Alek Buttermann Mexican President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum has declined an invitation from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to visit Ukraine, reaffirming Mexico’s commitment to neutrality in international conflicts.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin will not travel to Mexico, which has signed the Rome Statute, for the inauguration of elected President Claudia Sheinbaum. Ukraine has requested the arrest of the Kremlin leader should he visit the country.

Mexico signed the Rome Statute in 2005 and is subject to the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, which issued the arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The U.S. ambassador to Mexico has denied President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's claims that the U.S. is partly responsible for the recent violence in Sinaloa. The conflict between rival factions of the Sinaloa Cartel has led to over 50 deaths.
