Hasner is the latest in a string of former lawmakers who’ve become a Florida college or university president in recent years.

Another former Republican lawmaker has been picked to lead one of Florida’s public universities. The board of trustees of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton on Monday picked Adam Hasner to be the school’s next president.

Sen. Andy Kim, D-N.J., on Sunday indicated that he's open to shutting down the government ahead of a key government funding deadline if the Trump administration continues reshaping the federal government.

Hasner, 55, is currently an executive vice president for The Geo Group, a private prison company based in Boca Raton. His hiring came a week after the trustees voted to boost the total compensation for the presidential job to between $1 million and $1.5 million.

The Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees unanimously selected Adam Hasner, formerly Majority Leader in the Florida House of Representatives, as its next president.

He’ll oversee an institution with a $1.2B operating budget, more than 30,000 students and nearly 3,500 employees.
