This is not what anybody expected going into the season, but injuries have held them back significantly. Star forward Zion Williamson has only played 30 games for the Pelicans this season, and that is where his 2024-25 campaign will end.

Zion Williamson’s season is over. So is CJ McCollum’s. The New Orleans Pelicans announced Monday evening that they are shutting down their top two best remaining players for the remainder of the season.

The New Orleans Pelicans, out of NBA playoff contention, are shutting down Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum for the rest of the regular season, the team said on Monday.But with seven games left in the regular season the Pelicans are next to last in the Western Conference.

Injured stars Zion Williamson and C.J. McCollum will not play again this season, the Pelicans announced in a press release Monday evening (March 31). New Orleans’ top two remaining players will sit out the final seven games of the disappointing 2024-25 season and concentrate on rest and rehab from injuries sustained earlier this month.

Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum will miss the rest of the season because of injuries, the New Orleans Pelicans said Monday. Williamson sustained a low back bone contusion after a fall during a game on March 19 in Minnesota.

Since being drafted No. 1 overall by the New Orleans Pelicans in 2019, power forward Zion Williamson has struggled to live up to the hype. Injuries are one key reason Williamson's success at Duke hasn't carried over into the NBA.

Williamson has a lower back contusion while McCollum is suffering from a bone contusion in his right foot. CJ McCollum and Zion Williamson averaged 21.1 and 24.6 points per game this season, respectively.
