The timeline for reopening of Route 80 in Wharton has been pushed back as construction is taking longer than expected. All lanes in both directions are on schedule to reopen by June 25.
Thought to be directly under the Avalon Wharton housing complex and Interstate 80 near the sinkholes, the mine was worked from 1786 until 1896, U.S. Geological Survey records show.
