Speaking at the AFC coaches breakfast during the NFL’s annual meeting on Monday, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin pushed back on the Lions’ push to tweak playoff seeding by prioritizing record over division champions.

The Lions have proposed playoff seeding independent of division championship. Even if the proposal fails, it will spark a conversation for the powers-that-be. Earlier this week, Competition Committee chairman Rich McKay addressed the situation during a call with reporters.

Detroit has also suggested excluding any player from the 90-player roster limit if they are placed on season-ending injured reserve on or before the day when NFL rosters reduce from 90 to 53 players. Players designated for return would be excluded from this rule.
