The U.S. Department of Justice has agreed to limit Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency's access to the Treasury Department's federal payment system.

Why it matters: The proposed order that would limit to two Treasury Department employees affiliated with DOGE "read only" access to the data comes in response to a lawsuit that seeks to block DOGE's access to sensitive data.

A group of Democratic state attorneys general have vowed to sue the Trump administration over Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency attempt to access federal payment systems containing personal information. Attorneys general from 14 states, including New York’s Letitia James, are leading the charge.
