Connecticut will see rain Saturday afternoon before a snowstorm is expected to hit the state Sunday, along with frigid temps through next week, the NWS says.

The forecast then said that Sunday night has a 50% chance of snowfall. The forecaster's discussion said that some parts of Connecticut and the tri-state area may be affected by the northern side of the precipitation shield, providing the possibility for some light snow, primarily for the coastal areas.

Light snow is expected Saturday morning in Connecticut that may cause slippery roads conditions, the weather service said.

Relatively mild temperatures mostly in the low 40s are expected Monday in Connecticut before a cold front arrives later in the day, weather service said.

Connecticut is in for a frigid week starting overnight on Sunday, Jan. 19, according to the National Weather Service and AccuWeather.

Temperatures are expected to fall around zero next week, prompting state officials to enact Connecticut's severe cold weather protocol.

The protocol goes into effect beginning at 6 p.m. on Jan. 19 and will last until noon on Jan. 24. Anyone in need of shelter should call 2-1-1. Rides are available.
