Couple die in freak snorkelling incident during babymoon in Hawaii - Ilya Tsaruk and his pregnant wife Sophia, who was expecting their second child, were found unresponsive in waters near Maui

A tragedy in paradise as a young, married couple from Washington state, celebrating their anniversary and the soon-to-be birth of their second child, drown in Maui.

MAUI (Gray News) – A pregnant mother and her husband from Washington state drowned while snorkeling on their vacation in Hawaii. A GoFundMe page identified the couple as Ilya and Sophia Tsaruk. According to the Maui County Fire Department, Ilya Tsaruk was 25 years old and Sophia Tsaruk was 26.

Family members identified the couple on their verified GoFundMe page as 25-year-old Ilya Tsaruk and 26-year-old Sophia Tsaruk. Sophia Tsaruk was pregnant and the couple also had an 18-month-old son who was not with them at the time of their deaths, according to the GoFundMe page.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -Police have identified the two parents who drowned off Maui on Saturday. The couple has been identified as Ilya Tasruk, 25, and Sophia Kovalevich, 26, of Snohomish, Washington. They were both pulled from the ocean at the Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve.

CPR was performed on both victims, but despite the rescue team's efforts, they were pronounced dead by Emergency Medical Services.
