Saturday’s hostage-taking and fatal shooting of a police officer at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York sent shockwaves throughout hospitals and health systems and led to increased security presences and reviews of security for areas where it could be strengthened.

UPMC says the situation is “fluid” after a shooting at a York County hospital Saturday left at least one person dead. The hospital and a county spokesman said that the gunman has been killed after opening fire at UPMC Memorial in West Manchester Township.
