With TikTok's potential US ban nears, users are scrambling for new apps like RedNote and Clapper, hoping to replace the beloved short-form video platform.

Influencers previously partnered with Lemon8 to promote the lesser-known app on TikTok. In recent weeks, many of them have hailed Lemon8 as the place to go if TikTok is banned under federal law. Some have also been recommending it through paid sponsored posts tagged #lemon8partner, showing a recent corporate push to generate more users.

Lemon8 is a social media app that is like a cross between Instagram and Pinterest, and is the sister app of TikTok. Both apps were developed by the China-based company ByteDance, who also own the video editing app, CapCut, and the photo/art editing app, Hypic.

Lemon8 is owned by a subsidiary of TikTok owner ByteDance. ByteDance started pushing TikTok users toward the app with sponsored TikTok posts as the TikTok ban looms, and has more than 1 million daily active users, according to Axios.

A TikTok ban is scheduled to take effect Sunday unless the Supreme Court rules otherwise Friday. American users have been familiarizing themselves with similar Chinese apps, such as Rednote and Lemon8,

The potential prohibition of the Chinese social media giant has sent users in search of other options. But some are based in China too.
