A North Carolina lottery player started the new year off a winner after claiming a big jackpot prize, lottery officials said.

Just before the ball dropped for 2025, an Illinois Lottery player won a $2.6 million jackpot in the state's lottery app.

The windfall was one of two multi-million-dollar jackpots won ahead of the new year, according to the Georgia Lottery.
