The Texas Senate has passed SB 2, which now awaits approval from the House. Here's what lawmakers say about the proposed school voucher program.

State Rep. David Spiller, a Republican in Jacksboro, wants all public schools in Texas to have designated prayer and Bible time and to post displays of the Ten Commandments in classrooms across the state.

According to TSTA, while Senate Bill 2 has an initial cost of about $1 billion, the bill is expected to balloon up to $6 billion by the 2028-29 budget period. The association claims those factors would add to the ongoing financial issues, causing more teachers to disappear from classrooms.
