The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched the world's first large-scale round-the-clock gigascale energy storage project in Abu Dhabi, combining solar power and battery storage in a significant development for the country’s energy sector.

In the presence of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar and Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) today announced the launch of the world's first large-scale 'round the clock' gigascale project,

Masdar: Announced during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), the gigascale project will combine 5.2GW of solar PV capacity with a 19GWh battery storage facility to deliver 1GW of uninterrupted renewable energy.

The United Arab Emirates’ main green energy producer is planning a project to link solar power with battery storage to provide uninterrupted power.

President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was present during the launch in Abu Dhabi on January 14. The project, led by Masdar and Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), will combine solar power with advanced battery technology to deliver clean energy around the clock.
