Novak Djokovic fell in the final round of the Miami Open to 19-year-old Jakub Mensik in straight sets, 7-6, 7-6, on Sunday. Mensik, playing in his first final, earned his spot after defeating No. 3 seed Taylor Fritz in the semifinals and became the second-youngest champion in tournament history, per ATP Tour.

Jakub Mensik is a Masters 1000 champion! The young Czech prevailed over Novak Djokovic 7-6, 7-6 in two hours and three minutes in the Miami Open final for his first ATP title. Thus, Mensik became the first player born in 2005 with a Masters 1000 crown.

Djokovic, 37, who was seeking his seventh Miami title, was already in the ATP Top 100 rankings in 2005, the year Mensik was born. Djokovic, who defeated Mensik last year in the Shanghai quarterfinals in their only previous matchup, heaped praise on his young opponent in Miami.
