When Netflix increased prices this week, Christopher Duggan was annoyed. The 59-year-old communications professional in the St. Louis area is sticking with Netflix and two other streaming services but said he’s tired of constant price increases and haggling with his cable and internet provider over escalating bills.

But, with every amazing new way to enjoy things like your Netflix subscription, the past few years have seen a number of streaming price increases that have angered many. So, of course, the internet has thoughts after Netflix announced yet another big price increase.

To justify the latest price hikes, the second round in just over a year, Netflix promises a slate of new content in 2025. “When you’re going to ask for a price increase, you better make sure you have the goods and the engagement to back it up,

Netflix is by far the most popular streaming service, and its new pricing structure makes it among the most expensive. For comparison, Amazon Prime Video, the second most popular service, costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year (it's bundled with the Amazon Prime delivery service). Disney+ is $15.99 with no ads, and ad-free Hulu is $18.99 a month.

Netflix is the standard bearer currently for streaming services. It has grown incredibly over the last decade by creating its own series and movies and giving subscribers a lot of quality. This is above and beyond what the streamer shows from other studios.
