The Mavericks ' stunning jump to win the NBA Draft Lottery despite entering with only a 1.8% chance to do so was the story of the night, but the Jazz, Wizards and Hornets falling proved to be a major subplot in arguably the most dramatic lottery ever.

While the Oklahoma City Thunder are busy with their Round 2 playoff series against the Denver Nuggets, the 2025 NBA draft lottery was revealed. The randomness always creates chaos. It happened again as the Dallas Mavericks landed the No. 1 pick and will likely add Cooper Flagg.

ESPN's Chris "Mad Dog" Russo isn't among those who think that the NBA Draft Lottery is rigged. He also likes the idea of holding a lottery so that teams compete in a tanking match and try to lose every game possible just to get the draft's top pick.

Washington entered Monday's lottery draw tied for the best odds to win the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes at 14.0%. The team also had around a 52.1% shot at landing a top-four pick.

There are two rounds in the draft. The first round features 30 picks and the second round has 29. There are typically 30 picks per round, but the New York Knicks were docked their 2025 second-rounder after the league found they had tampered with Jalen Brunson leading up to 2022 free agency.
