An Israeli air strike killed 10 Palestinians in the north of the occupied West Bank on Wednesday night, the Palestinian health ministry says. Video footage reportedly from the town of Tamun showed chaotic scenes, badly damaged buildings and bloodstained streets.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the assault on Jenin would be “extensive and significant,” as the military erected new checkpoints across the West Bank.

The action came a day after President Donald Trump said he will lift sanctions on ultranationalist Israeli settlers who attacked Palestinian villages.

The attack in Tulkarem comes as Israeli raids on the nearby Jenin area of the occupied West Bank enter a seventh day.

Israel says its increased military raids are aimed at combating rising Palestinian militant attacks against Israelis, including shootings.

Between January 21 and 27 alone, Israeli forces killed 20 Palestinians and injured 81, including 11 children, in attacks across the West Bank, according to OCHA.
