I-77 North has reopened near Charlotte at Exit 9, NC 160 / I-277 North / US 74 West, following earlier police activity. However, 6 miles of congestion remain in the area, NCDOT said.

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Fire Department reported a structure fire in the 300 block of E Morehead Street Saturday morning. Witnesses reported seeing a large plume of smoke from I-277 and beyond.
