The sinkhole was originally a 30-foot long depression in the highway near Exit 34 and the second to occur in two months.
Another sinkhole in Wharton forced the closure of all eastbound lanes on Interstate 80 Monday at Exit 34 for New Jersey Route 15. In December a sinkhole closed I-80 for four days in the same town.
NJDOT responded to the scene on Monday after a depression was found in the roadway. As workers were boring holes to investigate, they triggered a second sinkhole.
