A police K-9 officer was shot with a rifle while attempting to detain a suspect in Vacaville, authorities say.

A K-9 officer was shot while trying to apprehend a suspect in Vacaville on Wednesday, the police department said.

A K9 officer named Murph was injured after a suspect fired a rifle during an arrest in Vacaville on Wednesday, and was taken to an emergency veterinary hospital and is expected to survive.

A Vacaville Police Department K9 dog was shot while apprehending a suspect on Wednesday, VPD said. The dog was shot in a limb and is expected to survive. Police responded to a home on the 300 block of Regency Circle after the suspect called 911 and threatened to shoot others.
