WASHINGTON (AP) — Immigration advocacy groups on Monday sued the Trump administration over its ban on asylum access at the southern border, saying the sweeping restrictions illegally put people who are fleeing war and persecution in harm’s way.

The first such military flight out of El Paso, Texas, took place, bound for Guatemala with approximately 80 immigrants on board.

A coalition of immigrant advocates, including the American Civil Liberties Union, sued the Trump administration in federal court in Washington on Monday, arguing that President Trump’s order shutting the United States’ southern border to asylum seekers was unlawful.
