Save Seawolves Athletics, a group that's protesting the elimination of athletics at Sonoma State University, has filed a formal civil rights complaint over the decision.

During his almost 30 years at Sonoma State, Rich Shayewitz has held numerous titles: student-athlete, women’s basketball coach, academic adviser, eligibility coordinator, kinesiology professor, even alumni association president.

Sonoma State University administrators announced in January they would be shutting down the entire athletic department to help close a $23.9 million budget deficit.
