Karla Sofia Gascón, the titular star of “Emilia Pérez” and first openly transgender performer to be nominated for an Oscar, will no longer be involved in awards campaigning for the movie, according to a new report.

Per the Hollywood Reporter, the first openly trans woman to be nominated for an Oscar has been ousted from promotions of the film.

In a tearful interview that Netflix did not authorize, the ‘Emilia Pérez’ star denied calling her costar Selena Gomez a “rich rat” and accused her detractors of unearthing “false” intel to derail her best-actress campaign.
