President Donald Trump temporarily halted a ban on TikTok in the US, granting the company and its Chinese parent ByteDance Ltd. more time to reach a deal for the popular app that would resolve long-standing US national security concerns.

President Trump has paused the federal ban on TikTok for 75 days, giving ByteDance, the app's China-based owner, time to sell its U.S. assets. In a bold proposal, Trump suggested that a future buyer give the United States a 50% ownership stake in a joint venture.

The executive order delayed implementation of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, which took effect January 19 and would prohibit the distribution and updating of TikTok in the United States.
