NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope unveiled a stunning new image from the farthest reaches of space. This groundbreaking image showcases Herbig-Haro 49/50, a jet of gas and air emitted by a star that is still in the process of formation.

HH 49/50 is one of these impact sites. It was nicknamed the "Cosmic Tornado" due to its dramatic, swirling shape. Spitzer's images weren't clear enough to discern the fuzzy object located at its tip — but JWST 's are.

It's rare for any observatory to directly image a planet beyond our solar system, called an exoplanet, but the powerful James Webb Space Telescope has captured four of them in the stellar system HR 8799.
