For 40 minutes on Saturday the Buffalo Sabres were the better team. It wasn’t Calgary Flames goalie Dan Vladar that was beating them, they got plenty of chances but hit posts, crossbars and shot wide.

Buffalo (7-7-1) extended its its win streak to three games and beat Calgary (7-5-3) at home for the first time since November 2016.

JJ Peterka scored the lone shootout goal, and the Buffalo Sabres beat the Calgary Flames 3-2 on Saturday. Tage Thompson and Zach Benson scored first-period goals, and the Sabres earned their third consecutive win.

Bowen Byram scored twice, and Tage Thompson had a goal and an assist for the Sabres (5-7-1), who had lost three straight. Rasmus Dahlin and Ryan McLeod each had two assists, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 37 saves.
