The group of Republicans teamed up with Democrats to overcome a procedural hurdle backed by GOP leadership that would have blocked a proposed resolution allowing new parents in Congress to vote remotely.

A band of Republican lawmakers on Tuesday brought the House floor to a halt over a bitter dispute with Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and conservatives in their own party over a plan to allow remote voting for lawmakers who become new parents.

Republicans defended two House seats in Florida while both parties hoped to win a coveted seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Republicans won special elections in two Florida Congressional districts. The margins of victory in the heavily-Republican districts were significantly narrower than in November.
