But against a Thunder side led by Warner, one of the T20 greats, and featuring two players of Indian descent – the unrelated Jason and Tanveer Sangha – few expected him to be the hero.

Owen and Caleb Jewell blasted a record 74 from the four-over powerplay, smashing the previous best of 64 from BBL11. The contest appeared over before the Thunder had the chance to blink, with Owen rocketing to 31 from 10, 47 from 14, and 68 from 23 at difference stages of the first five overs of the innings.
