Gavin Sheets lined a double to left field to drive in two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the San Diego Padres on top of the Cleveland Guardians, 6-2. Jason Heyward followed with a double off the wall in right-center field to drive in Sheets and give the Padres a 7-2 lead en route to their fifth consecutive win to start the season.

Five games and 14 at-bats is a small sample size but things couldn't be going any better for Gavin Sheets or his new team.

The Padres announced that they have selected the contract of first baseman/outfielder Gavin Sheets. To make room on the 40-man roster, right-hander Joe Musgrove was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Musgrove is recovering from Tommy John surgery and will miss the entire 2025 season.
