Officials have increased the containment for the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire burning in the Los Angeles area as critical fire weather remains in Southern California. While an official cause of any fire has not been released, various accusations, rumors, lawsuits and reports have emerged related to each. Here’s what we know.

Wildfires are common in California, but the deaths caused by Eaton and Palisades Fires burning across Los Angeles are historic. The Eaton Fire in Altadena is the fifth deadliest wildfire in California history since record-keeping began in 1933,

The Eaton Fire east of downtown Los Angeles is one of three wildfires still burning in the area, according to CalFire. It has consumed over 14,000 acres and destroyed nearly 2,000 structures, the agency says.

Attorneys representing those affected by the Eaton Fire filed a lawsuit against Southern California Edison alleging that the company's equipment sparked the disastrous blaze in Altadena.

Lawsuits filed Monday claim utility equipment sparked one of the two deadly wildfires burning in the Los Angeles area while some Pacific Palisades residents believe the other blaze may have started when hurricane-force winds reignited the remnants of an extinguished New Year's Day fire.
