A state investigation is underway after a Ross Correctional Institution guard died during what's being called an “inmate assault” Christmas morning.

A correction officer in Ross County was killed Christmas morning by an inmate. The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction announced that officer Andrew Lansing died Wednesday morning after being assaulted by an inmate at the Ross County Correctional Institution.

An investigation is underway into the death of an Ohio corrections officer. Officer Andrew Lansing was attacked by an inmate on Christmas morning at the Ross Correctional Institution in Chillicothe, according to officials. The prison said Lansing died as a result of the attack.

Funeral services for slain Ohio corrections officer Andrew Lansing will be held on Jan. 3 in Chillicothe. Rashawn Cannon, 27, is accused of fatally attacking Lansing, 62, on Christmas morning at Ross Correctional Institution in Chillicothe.

Cannon, who did this — is just pure evil," Chambers-Smith said. An incident report from the Ohio Highway Patrol, which is investigating the death, stated that Lansing suffered severe head trauma before his death.
