A former U.S. Army soldier who posted a video to YouTube threatening to commit a mass shooting at Fort Irwin will spend 24 months in prison. Christian Beyer, 42, was formally sentenced on Sept. 19, nearly a year after he shared his intention to sneak onto the base and murder specific soldiers.

Christian Beyer, 42, evaded sheriff’s deputies, K-9 units and a CHP airplane in Mendocino County before being arrested in Petaluma last year.

Christian Beyer's attorney said in her bid for leniency that the veteran may have suffered brain damage from chronic exposure to tank blasts over 23 years in the Army.

U.S. Army soldier Travis King has pleaded guilty to desertion and four other charges following an incident last year in which he ran into North Korea.

King, who fled to North Korea last year, was given a year in prison, but released for time served by a military judge.
