Pros: I love the tour . It was fascinating. Cons: They need to stop having vendors inside the fort. It's ludicrous. Too many people at the entrance it gives unsafe feelings, plus they kept asking …Full review by mireusen

Go for a trip to Cap-Haitian, the 2nd city of Haiti. It's better if you have a private car. Then, from Cap-Haitian you continue to Milot, a small town on the way to Hinche, Pleateau Central but it's …Full review by mountaintop_kings_2

Contact Voyages Lumiere in Port-au-prince. It is run by Jacqui a wonderful Englishwoman who has lived there for 20 years. Easy via Google. I am sure she can sort you out. Mention that you got the recommendation from Oliver and Sue! Good idea to get out of Labadee which gives no idea of an extraordinary country. Good luck.
Which tour companies will collect me from Labadee RC beach for a tour to the Citadelle? I can't find any information online, and I really don't want to just sit on the RC beach when I can meet Haitians and see a bit of the country and culture.

There are no formal tours arranged for Citadelle from Labadee usually because of the amount of time you are in port. The trip from Labadee to the Citadelle base will take at least 1.5 hrs in good traffic. Then to get to the top (especially if you choose to walk) you are looking at another hour or two. If you linger at all (and there are lots of great spots for photos and story telling, by all means pay the money for an official guide since they are well trained and speak many languages) you are looking at a commitment of at least 6 hours. Be prepared for an outlay of $70US for an official guide and entrance fee at Citadelle, as well as the usual offers of extras for more $$. All prices in Haiti are negotiable though, especially if you learn some Kreyol. If you have that kind of time, money and energy, it really is a better taste of the country and culture and you will not regret it!
