We stayed in a flat on the main Getreidegasse in Salzburg’s Old Town. It was real fun to be immersed in the middle of the action where tourists congregate. The pedestrianised Getreidegasse was clean… Full review by michaelt238874Y

I have traveled to over 30 different cities in Europe and none have ever left me with the deeply unsettled feeling I experienced in Salzburg. The entire place feels like it’s lacking depth. When I wa… Full review by Jana L
I am keen on the old central Eurpean cafes/coffee houses and wonder which the best are in Salzburg. Thanks.

If you want to visit an authentic, not so touristy Salzburg Café, try Café Wernbacher. This is where Salzburger are hanging out. In the same street there is Fingerlos. They have the best cakes, but it is not that comfortable to hang out for a longer time. Nevertheless I would recommend it for the "real" experience. I should know, as I'm from Salzburg :) We actually avoid Fürst and other Cafés in the old town, because they all are tourist traps. The service is mostly bad there.
Hi Hope you can help! We plan to make a short stop to Salzburg after visiting Vienna and before visiting Munich. Comparing the Hellbrunn Castle ver the Fortress Hohensalzburg, which one is the one that we should not miss? I’m not sure that we can fit them both in the trip. Thanks for any input.

Aloha, we looked at the going to the Castle, but it was away from old town with its cathedral, cemetery, and other sights. So we stayed, took to the tram to the top of the Fortress, ate, enjoyed the wonderful view of Salzburg, and had a marvelous time. But if we were staying longer, the Castle would have been next on our agenda. It was further away from old town, but you can take the city bus to get around, too. Aloha
Where can I find out about free tours in Salzburg, are there any that operate in the morning?
A:
I have never been in a country offering free tours. Tourism is a large part of the economy in many Nations and as such is not free. The previous post by Ramesh is your best bet.
