I agree with John D: The Naturhistorisches Museum isn't the Louvre or the Vatican Museum. I have the impression that most of the time you can just turn up without advance booking.

We had a Vienna pass but people were paying on entry
It seems some of the Vienna museums require you to check in even a light jacket. Is that required here?

My advice is if you can wear it, then take it off as you start to go around, as we did it will not be a problem. But yes they do ask you to place your jackets and bags (we kept our phones) …

But yes they do ask you to place your jackets and bags (we kept our phones) in a locker which in the Natural History Museum was free all that was said was that we could leave a tip. Enjoy your visit it will be worth while.
