we plan to stop by on out way up to New Paltz on a sat. afraid we won’t make the last 4 pm tour. anyone knows if we’d be able to walk around the grounds & see the mansion fr outside if we don’t do a tour? thnx!

Last I knew we were allowed to walk around the grounds unless they close the gates at a certain time which may well be. But I do not know the time they do that.
Are backpacks allowed and is there a place to leave them in the mansion?
A:
On our tour no one asked to “check” their bag. Nearby at the Armour/Stiner Octagon House, however, purses, backpacks, etc. had to be locked in our cars.
